1810 (reality show) - 1810 (reality show)

1810 is a reality show Chilean , produced and broadcast by Channel 13 in 2009. 22 participants -11 Chilean television characters and 11 characters chosen by a casting masivo- live in a hacienda , simulating the time of 1810, when just beginning to form the Chilean nation.

The program is based on the skills of competitors to adapt to the lifestyle of 200 years ago, therefore, they do not have electricity, hot water, or any technological comfort.

The winner of this program, Gabriel Mendoza , won a prize of $ 50 million (approximately USD $ 105,000). The competitors were locked up on Sunday, December 28, 2008 , while the program's premiere was held on Monday, January 5, 2009 .

1810 had a production cost of approximately $ 3 million, [ 1 ] of which a third went to the period setting. [ 1 ] The setting and the rental of the big house in Pirque - the same one used in the reality shows La Granja and La Granja VIP - have a monthly value of 2 million pesos . [ 1 ] The daily collection of 1810 reached 120 million pesos, [ 2 ] and stable sponsors paid approximately 400 million. [ 2 ]

This program managed, at first, that Channel 13 retake its leadership in reality shows, defeating in tune to its competition, The game of fear -of TVN-, which was canceled after 19 episodes.

Chapter premiere

The 11 participants unknown to the audience on top of a mountain in the Andes Mountains are presented on television , to which the 9 remaining participants from the world of television are then added. The arrival of the latter is done by helicopter.

Then the driver Raquel Argandoña appears on horseback , who makes a short introduction to what they are about to experience. Following this, the 20 participants must put aside everything belonging to the 21st century to dress as in the 1800s and undertake a journey of more than 7 hours through the mountains, to the hacienda in the town of Pirque . During the trip, the opponents receive a letter that mentions that there will not be 20 who will arrive at their destination, followed by this, 2 new participants are added. Now, the 22 competitors are divided into 2 teams of 11 people ( Libertad e Independencia), those who must, through a competition, assemble a cannon like those used at that time. The participants of the winning team will receive the title of Lords , while the participants of the losing team will have the title of Servants and must serve those of the winning team for one week. This episode averaged 24.7 ratings. [ 2 ]

  • 4th team competition : It consisted of each participant having to cross a structure of thin sticks, balancing on it until reaching the other side, taking a stake that another partner would provide, making the return journey and placing the stake on a stick so that when carrying all the stakes a kind of ladder would be built which they had to climb and rescue a saber that was at the top in order to achieve victory. If they fell on the outward journey, another colleague had to start the journey, and the one who fell repeat it until he succeeded, if he fell on the return journey, he continued from the place where he had fallen. As the competition dragged on for too long, participants were allowed to freestyle across the structure.

At the beginning of the test, one person per team had to swim to reach a large wheel, inside which they would get and remain for the rest of the test. This wheel had compartments, so that when it rolled it would throw out water that it had previously collected when making contact with the water that was under it. The water that fell had to be collected in some containers that were at the end of a long pole that another member of the team held, and then put it in another container that would be given to him by another member of the team, said member had to start from the shore ( four people per team performed this task) with the container and swim to the structure that was holding the wheel.
  • 7th team competition : It consisted of a work in pairs where both had to go sliding on a wooden platform, propelled with the force of their arms to help each other with a bar of the same material located parallel to the platform. Upon reaching the other side, they had to pick up and carry certain items (ammunition) one by one to the beginning. Once the eight objects had been transferred, all the members of the team had to cross to the other end in search of a cannon, which would be transferred to the starting point. The first team to arrive at the game with the cannon and shout: "We have homeland citizens" was the winning team.
  • 8th team competition : Each member of the team had to cross some barrels, which were separated by several meters, through a table. When he got to the other end, he had to take another plank and bring the two planks to the beginning, and then the next one started. As all the team members passed, each one had to stand in a barrel and transport the planks one by one until they reached the last barrel, once all the planks had been placed as a bridge between the barrels, they had to cross the entire team to the other end, knock down one wall and take a saber, the team that first took the saber, won.
  • 9th team competition : It was work in pairs, each couple had to load a barrel, until they reached a structure, one went up and the other ran to find a pulley, after raising the barrel to the structure, they had to drop it with the pulley At the other end, once there, the couple ran, unhooked it and loaded it up to some parallel bars that were on the floor, where it had to slide, at the end of these they had to load it and put it on a base with the lid facing the front (in which had letters), they had to do the same eight times, the word that they had to form with the letters of the barrels was Chileans, once this was achieved one of the members of the last couple had to run, take a stick that was between the two structures and return with a team, who first achieved all this was the winning team.

Parodies

In the wake of the popularity of 1810 , a few skits have cropped up on other television shows:

"One thousand zillion ten"

It was a section of the program La movida del festival that Channel 13 broadcast in February 2009, during the Viña del Mar Festival. Its creator was the same one who made Amor tuerto (a parody of blind love ) the previous year .

"1869, humor is not in crisis"

Comedy section regularly exhibited by the program Morandé with the company of Mega, with the comedian Ernesto Belloni as the main character.

Remarkable facts

  • The old names of the teams were the same as those of the shuttles in the movie Armageddon ("Freedom" and "Independence").
  • Rodrigo La Rivera was the only participant to belong to three teams: Libertad, Independencia and Chacabuco.
  • The finalists of La Granja , Gonzalo Egas and Arturo Longton, were the first eliminated VIPs by competition, but both returned in repechage instances. Arturo Prat beat Gonzalo in the duel in which he was eliminated, and Arturo Longton in his second game.
  • It is the Chilean reality show with the most lag between recording and broadcasting, being about two months late. This was the production's decision due to its good results. The recording of the reality show ended in mid-May, the last episode of the reality show from the hacienda was broadcast on July 16, and the final was held on July 19.
  • Episode 72, aired on May 14, was the most controversial. Camila was facing a duel with Leticia and at the beginning of the test, Angélica and several other participants realized that the elimination duel was supposedly unfair, since the barrel that Camila would occupy was further ahead than Leticia's. Despite this, the test began, Leticia took advantage, until Camila surpassed her and Leticia became increasingly difficult. Leticia, at the request of Angélica who did not stop screaming, asked production to observe the difference. The producer said that he did not notice anything and told the participants to continue the test and that the one that did not continue was left out of the reality show. Angélica made a scandal that the entire Chacabuco team detested, and she stated that she would leave the reality show by not putting up with such a situation.
  • In the second town hall of the 18th week, Arturo Prat broke into a nomination. Angélica called Gonzalo for a nomination, but Arturo Prat stopped him and went to the front stating: "Here everyone does what they want, now I'm going to do what they want," so Angélica gets angry and returns to her position and Arturo He continued at the front saying that he would speak, while Raquel demanded order. Arturo told Angelica: that she was beautiful, and to excuse her sayings that she did not regret but if she regretted having said them, and thanks her for accompanying him and taking care of him. Speech that concluded with applause from his classmates, while Angelica was indifferent. Throughout that nomination, Arturo faced all those who nominated him and have or had a bad relationship with Angelica,
  • In the publicity spot for the final battle, still published with the reality show in broadcast, only 6 faces are shown, except Camila, a participant who, according to the broadcast, was still in the competition. In addition, on the reality website they promote the finalists with videos and photo sessions, and even when entering the site, the faces of 6 participants appeared in the upper strip, plus the countdown to the grand final. Making it known that Camila was not one of the finalists 1 week before the duel was broadcast and almost 2 weeks before the reality finale.
  • After the elimination of Eliana Albasetti, all those eliminated were made known by entertainment programs.
