18 de Mayo is a Uruguayan city , in the department of Canelones . It is also the seat of the homonymous municipality .

History

The city was declared as such through law 19543 of October 20, 2017, and its creation arose from the subdivisions that developed between the cities of Las Piedras , to the south, and Progreso , to the north. This city was created after the formation of the homonymous municipality created in this area. [ 1 ]

It is divided into the following neighborhoods: Villa Foresti, El Dorado, Vista Linda, San Francisco, Villa Alegría, San Isidro, Villa Regina, Villa Cristina, San Marcos, El Dorado Chico, El Santo, San Francisco Chico and San Francisco Nuevo. [ 2 ] Its limits and population coincide with those of the homonymous municipality.
