The 1. VfL Potsdam eV is a handball club from Potsdam in Brandenburg .

The Union

The association was founded on April 19, 1990. Its origins lie in the company sports association of the GDR film company DEFA . Just two years later, in 1992, the club became a handball national base. In 2002/2003 the female department left the association and switched to the newly founded HSC Potsdam.

The flagship is the men's team, which made it to the 2nd Bundesliga without losing points in the 2008/09 season . They had already played there a season earlier, but were relegated straight away. By reaching 5th place in the table in the 2010/2011 season, the team qualified for the one-piece 2. Bundesliga from the 2011/2012 season. In 2012 she was relegated to the 3rd division ; there she plays in the season north or north-east.

In July 2013, the board filed for bankruptcy. The procedure was completed in June 2014.

Since 2013 there has been cooperation with the Füchsen Berlin [1] and with the HV Grün-Weiß Werder, [2] whereby an intensified cooperation with the Füchsen Berlin has been agreed for the 2020/2021 season [3] .

The home venue is the MBS Arena Potsdam with 2050 seats.
