The Swiss Ee 3/3 II electric locomotives correspond to the widely used Ee 3/3 in terms of appearance and mechanical part , but can also be used as dual-system locomotives under the French power system (25 kV, 50 Hz). In 1957 and 1958 six pre-series locomotives were delivered to the SBB, with three different versions ( BBC , MFO and SAAS) were tested. The mechanical part for all six locomotives came from SLM Winterthur (factory no. 4212–4217). In 1962 and 1963, a series of nine locomotives with electrical equipment from SAAS (Mechanik SLM, serial no. 4425–4433) was delivered to the SNCF, which was bought by the SBB in 1971 and was given the road numbers 16511–16519.

The Ee 3/3 II are in use in border stations with France (mainly in Basel), where they perform largely the same tasks as the Ee 3/3. In contrast to the six pre-production locomotives, the nine locomotives delivered to SNCF were equipped with multiple controls for double traction.

As part of the revision of the type designations, it was planned to designate the vehicles of the pre-series as Ee 931 and the series vehicles as Ee 932 . However, a consistent re-drawing was dispensed with and only individual series were given new numbers on the occasion of major revisions and repainting. More recently, the last three digits of the previous number have been retained (see SBB Ee 934 ). The pre-series locomotives were retired from 1994 to 2002 and the rest, with the exception of 16515, between 2006 and 2010.
