The type BVB Be 4/4 401-476 of Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB) is a four-axle tram - motor vehicle that belongs to the nationally procured series of Swiss standard vehicles . After the Second World War, BVB procured 76 cars of this type for the Basel tram network in three series, which, however, differ only slightly from one another.

First series 401–452

The first series of these four-axle one-way vehicles was purchased between 1948 and 1951 in a number of 52 vehicles. They were built by Schindler Waggon in Pratteln and equipped with electrical equipment from Brown Boveri & Cie . There are small differences in the series itself due to changes and modifications.

This series is no longer in scheduled use. After being scrapped, the Be 4/4 413 was preserved as a historic vehicle.

Second series 453–456

These four cars, which were procured in 1958, were somewhat shorter than the first series because the front clutch was omitted. Otherwise, of course, one or the other improvement was also incorporated. It was also built by Schindler Waggon in Pratteln and has electrical equipment from Brown Boveri & Cie.

This series is also no longer in use as planned.

Third series 457-476

The 20 cars of the third series were built by Schindler Waggon in Pratteln and put into operation in 1967 and 1968. The engines of the type GLM 0300a with 90 hp come from Brown Boveri & Cie. The vehicles were given the road numbers 457–476. From 1986 the electronic drive / brake control SIBAS 16 was installed on the Be 4/4 466–476. In 2016, they were decommissioned. [1]
