“Night of Lights” at the 99th Catholic Day in Regensburg

The 99th German Catholic Day took place from May 28 to June 1, 2014 in Regensburg . The host was the Diocese of Regensburg , which is organizing the Catholic Day with the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) . The motto was “Building bridges with Christ”. [1]

After 1849 and 1904, Regensburg was the meeting point of the lay meeting for the third time. A Catholic Day was last held in Bavaria in 1984. On November 19, 2011, the general assembly of the ZdK in Bad Godesberg decided, with a vote of 78.6 percent, to accept the invitation from then Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller to hold the 99th Catholic Day in 2014 in Regensburg. [2] The sponsoring association was founded in April 2012. The Katholikentagleitung was constituted directly after the 98th German Katholikentag in Mannheim in July 2012, chaired by Alois Glück .

Around 50,000 participants came to Regensburg. [3] They discussed, among others, the topics of celibacy , recognition of homosexual lifestyles and the admission of women to the office of priest . [4]
