On March 27, 1923, the municipal fire insurance association was launched. The eight communities of Bretten , Bruchsal , Eberbach , Heidelberg , Karlsruhe , Kehl as well as Mannheim and Pforzheim took over the sponsorship and thus the responsibility . The first task of the association should be to insure the community's own dangers against fire. A short time later, the municipal fire insurance association became the Badische Gemeinde-Versicherungs-Verband (BGV).
In 1952, the BGV administered 20,596 contracts with 52 employees.
All over Baden , cities and municipalities, rural districts, numerous municipal administration and special-purpose associations as well as municipal companies form the basis of the association's business. There are now over 800 members. These determine its tasks as well as the type and scope of insurance cover. The BGV has continually expanded its range of insurance products through participations in start-ups and cooperation agreements.
