A1 was the name of the first (dating from 1933 ) of a series of German rockets , in whose design Wernher von Braun participated and whose further development would lead to the creation of the V2 , the world's first ballistic missile .

It exploded in Kummersdorf during one of the tests. It was actually aerodynamically unstable (it had a flywheel up front) and no launch attempts were made.

The propellant chosen for the rocket consisted of 75% alcohol and 40 kg of liquid oxygen .
