The Aachen Christmas market , which takes place annually during Advent , was founded in the 1970s. The Printenmarkt , as it used to be called, was only located around the Elisenbrunnen , whereas today the Christmas market takes place on the Aachener Markt and the Katschhof , because otherwise there would not be enough space.

With an annual number of more than 1.5 million visitors from large parts of Europe [1], the Aachen Christmas market is one of the larger in Germany , although in 2008 it was only served by 117 [2] exhibitors and restaurateurs .

As a major event, it takes place every year in Aachen's old town around the Aachen Cathedral and the town hall , where the backdrop creates a special atmosphere.

Culinary specialties are above all the Aachener Printen , gingerbread , dominoes , speculoos and marzipan breads .
