Aníbal Vela El Castillo ( Madrid , Spain , 7 of June of 1896 - Madrid , Spain , 7 of March of 1962 ) was a famous low and an actor of theater and cinema Spanish of the twentieth century.

For a time he shared a poster tour with the tenor Miguel Fleta , which was followed by the opera season at the Apolo theater in Madrid and the representation of Las golondrinas at the Liceo de Barcelona . He was also part of the lyrical company of the Calderón theater in Madrid in the 30s that was subsidized by the Spanish Republic. He made an American tour with the company of the maestro Federico Moreno Torroba, premiering La chulapona and Azabache in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In 1936, the Simpson from La tabernera del puerto premiered his most famous role . In 1938 he performed during the civil war at the Fuencarral theater in Madrid, premiering Los amos del barrio by maestro Manuel López-Quiroga Miquel . The artist managed to make a name for himself from the end of the twenties and thirties participating in numerous lyrical companies with the best voices of the moment. In the 1940s he participated as a bass player and an actor in Elio Guzmán's company, having previously been a stage director. There he is part of premieres such as The Dance of the Witches 1942, The Gypsy Painter 1943 , or Serrania 1944 . One of his last theatrical seasons was that of 1956 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela singing Dª Francisquita in the debut of a young tenor named Alfredo Kraus .

He married Maria Rosa Lamana Ullate in July 1925. [ 1 ] One of the children of the marriage was the actor Aníbal Vela Lamana (? -1992). [ 2 ] Some sources confuse father and son, indicating that the singer born in 1896 was called Lamana with a second surname. [ 3 ]

He began his career in the cinema after the end of the civil war, required by some film companies such as Argos or Suevia Films , thanks mainly to his voice and his ideal physique for the roles of serious and authority people.
