Anders Olsson Montan (born February 13, 1845 in Bröddarp near Söderslätt , Schonen , southern Sweden ; † May 14, 1917 in Düsseldorf ) was a Swedish genre and interior painter and lithographer of the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Montan, one of six children of Ola Andersson and Karin Pålsdotter, studied at the Copenhagen Art Academy , then at the Stockholm Art Academy . In 1878 he went to Düsseldorf , where he became a member of the artists' association Malkasten in 1884 and remained single until his death. [1] In search of his favorite subjects - expressive, rather dark interiors of old farmhouses, forging, barns, castle and wine cellars, as well as the people living in them and working people - traveled Montan different German landscapes, such as the Lipper country where he Spent 32 years every summer, and the Moselle. Apart from that, he also wanted to use the industrial interiors of glass works, steel works and mines. He liked to play with the lighting effects of lamps, fire and candlelight. Montan received an order from the Krupp-Gussstahlfabrik to paint in their facilities. As an industrial painter, he created six large paintings, probably for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago . [2] With Henrik Nordenberg , another Swedish genre and interior painter from Düsseldorf, he took part in major exhibitions in Berlin, in 1891 in the International Art Exhibition of the Association of Berlin Artists , in 1900 in theGreat Berlin art exhibition .
