Monsignor Andrés Arteaga Manieu ( Santiago de Chile , January 17 , 1959 ) is a Chilean Catholic priest .

Biography

Is Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Santiago and was Vice-Chancellor of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile between 2000 and 2011. [ 1 ]

Auxiliary Bishop of Santiago and titular of Baliana, he entered the Pontifical Major Seminary of Santiago in 1978. He was ordained a priest on May 31 , 1986 by the then Archbishop of Santiago, Cardinal Juan Francisco Fresno .

In 1986 he assumed as vicar of the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus . In 1991, he was appointed trainer and director of studies at the Major Pontifical Seminary of Santiago.

In November 1995, he received a doctorate in Theology from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In 1996 he was appointed president of the Sagrados Corazones Educational Foundation. In 1997 he became part of the Presbytery Council of the Archdiocese of Santiago and is elected member of the Executive Committee of this instance.

Since 1993 he has been a professor at the Faculty of Theology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Five years later, Cardinal Carlos Oviedo Cavada granted him the appointment of vice dean of this faculty. The Jubilee Year 2000, Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz appointed Vice Chancellor of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, besides entrusting the custody on the Pastoral Care of this University, a position he held until 2011. On July 10, 2001, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop of Santiago and his episcopal ordination took place on August 19, 2001 in the Metropolitan Cathedral.

Accused of not reviewing the veracity of the acts of abuse characterized by priest Karadima .

He is currently diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in a very advanced state, which is why he is retired from all public and pastoral activities. His residence is fixed in the house of retired priests of the Archdiocese of Santiago.
