Andrés Ignacio Rebolledo Smitmans ( 17 of April of 1968 ) is an economist and political Chilean , militant of the Socialist Party (PS). An expert in international economic relations and in the energy area, he worked for more than 20 years in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile and served as Chile's Minister of Energy between 2016 and 2018 under the second government of Michelle Bachelet . [ 1 ]

Biography

He studied at the National Institute and the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Chile where he joined the Socialist Party . He completed a postgraduate degree in International Economics and Economic Development at the Complutense University of Madrid , Spain. In the 1990s, he joined the General Directorate of International Economic Relations (Direcon), where he served as manager of the Mexico, Central America and ALADI area and later as head of the Latin America and Integration Department; between 2005 and 2008 he was Director of Bilateral Economic Affairs at Direcon. [ 2 ]

In 2009, President Michelle Bachelet appointed him Chile's ambassador to Uruguay and the country's representative to ALADI . Between 2010 and 2014 he was a consultant in the Integration and Trade area of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in Washington ( United States ). [ 2 ]

In March 2014 he was appointed as general director of the Direcon of the second Bachelet government. [ 3 ] In October 2016, he became Minister of Energy, replacing Máximo Pacheco . [ 2 ]
