Andre Matthias (born February 15, 1974 in Hamburg ) is a composer of film music .

Life

Andre Matthias studied systematic and historical musicology at the University of Hamburg . He has worked as a composer on numerous short and feature films. Matthias initially composed music for theater pieces until he turned to film music in 1999. With film music for project and graduation films by students from various German film schools, he quickly made a name for himself among young directors. Since then he has worked regularly with a number of independent directors . These include Roman Deppe , Teymur Mokhtari and Timo Landsiedel .

The Chinese director Kenneth Bi engaged Matthias in 2007 for his feature film The Journey of the Chinese Drummer . The reason for choosing a German composer was the fact that the film was co-produced by the German production company Twenty Twenty Vision . With this film music, his work was noticed for the first time on the international stage, in 2008 he was nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award in the category Best Original Film Music.
