Andreas Alfred Meier (born May 2, 1949 in Biel ) is a Swiss art historian and publicist .

Life

Andreas Meier studied German literature and art history in Bern and Hamburg from 1969 and graduated from the University of Bern with Walther Killy and Eduard Hüttinger as Lic.phil I. After several years of teaching at the Biel Design School (1974 to 1980) and later in Bern (1992 to 1996), he became a research assistant at the Kunstmuseum Bern (1981 to 1987) and in 1987 took on the task of planning the city's museum Biel, from which the Museum Neuhaus (see NMB Neues Museum Biel ) and the Kunsthaus Center PasquArt [1]emerged in Biel. From 1990 to 2002 he was the founding director of the Center PasquArt and co-founder of the Center PasquArt Foundation and the Kunsthaus Collection Foundation.

In Biel, he was involved in international cultural exchange projects with Bosnia , South Africa , Poland , Ukraine and Cuba . In 1995 he showed the exhibition Cinéastes - Artistes for the 100th anniversary of the cinema . The exhibition Nonchalance on the younger Swiss art scene was created in 1997 together with Christoph Doswald . From 2003 to 2008 Meier headed the Seedamm Kulturzentrum [2] in Pfäffikon / SZ (today: Vögele Kultur Zentrum [3] ). He realized exhibitions here on, among others, Oskar Kokoschka and the contemporary artists Herman de Vriesand Mark Dion . Since 2008 he has been working as a freelancer and founded the network "memoriart33-45" [4] , which draws attention to the visual artists who died between 1933 and 1945 during the Nazi era . Simultaneous research on the exile of visual artists in Switzerland (1933 to 1945) and on Irmgard Burchard, organizer of the Twentieth Century German Art Exhibition in London in 1938. [5]

  • 2000: Atu Prize for Building Culture, for the Center PasquArt (and to the architects Diener & Diener, Basel) [8]
