Zumkeller comes from a family of restaurateurs whose restaurant Adler in Häuser is the only one in Germany to have consistently been awarded a star since the first edition of the Michelin Guide in 1966.  His grandfather Erich cooked the star, his father Winfried defended it for over 30 years. 
He completed his training with Alfred Klink ( Colombi Hotel in Freiburg im Breisgau ). Other stations were Philippe Chevrier in the Domaine de Châteauvieux  and Adolfo Blokbergen in the L'Auberge du Raisin.
Since 2006 he has been a chef at his home restaurant Adler , and head chef there since 2011. Even under him, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star.
