The Am Salzgittersee airfield is a glider airfield in the immediate vicinity of the north bank of the Salzgittersee. The airfield is approved for gliders , motor gliders and hot air balloons . The nickname in the radio is Lebenstedt-INFO.
The placeholder for the glider site is the Aero Salzgitter eV sports association 
The sports community was founded in 1950 and was originally located in the Salzgitter district of Lebenstedt , there in the northern district of Fredenberg . In 1971 almost the entire inventory of the association was destroyed by a major fire in addition to the aircraft.
The reopening and commissioning took place on June 5, 1975.
