Javier Treviño Cantú ( Monterrey , Nuevo León , December 11 , 1960 ). He is General Director of Public Policies of the Business Coordinating Council of Mexico. He has been Undersecretary of Foreign Relations, Senior Officer of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, Undersecretary of Public Education. He has also been Senior Vice President of Communication and Corporate Affairs at CEMEX. He is a Mexican politician, member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party , has been, among other positions, Secretary General of the Government of Nuevo León and federal deputy; from the 4 of October of 2015 is Secretary of Basic EducationSecretariat of Public Education .

Studies

Javier Treviño Cantú has a degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México and a Master's degree in Public Policy from Harvard University , he also has diplomas in Strategic Marketing Communications and Corporate Finance.

Political career

In 1987 he served as planning director of the Arturo Rosenblueth Processing Center of the Ministry of Public Education and later as an advisor to the director of Social Communication of the Presidency of Mexico, from 1989 to 1993 he held the position of minister of information in the Embassy of Mexico in the United States , and in the last year mentioned he was appointed as an advisor to the then Secretary of Social Development , Luis Donaldo Colosio, and when he was nominated as a PRI candidate for President of Mexico in 1994, he became an advisor in his political campaign. Colosio assassinated that same year, the new PRI candidate,Ernesto Zedillo appointed him as international affairs advisor for his campaign.

The 1 of December of 1994 Ernesto Zedillo became president of Mexico and named from that day to Javier Trevino Cantu as Undersecretary for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , being the owner of the José Angel Gurría ; He remained in office until 1998 , when Gurría is appointed Secretary of Finance and Public Credit and then Treviño becomes the Senior Clerk of said agency, until the end of the Zedillo government. In 2000, he was again an advisor for International Affairs to the then PRI candidate for the presidency, Francisco Labastida Ochoa .

Francisco Labastida was defeated in the election by Vicente Fox , so the PRI left the government and consequently Javier Treviño joined the private initiative, serving between 2001 and 2009 as senior vice president of Communication and Corporate Affairs of Cementos Mexicanos ( CEMEX ) . In 2009, the governor-elect of Nuevo León, Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz appointed him as his government transition coordinator and on taking office on October 4 of that year appointed him head of the General Secretariat of the State Government.

He resigned from the Secretary of Government in 2012 to assume the coordination in Nuevo León of the campaign of the candidate for the presidency of the PRI, Enrique Peña Nieto , and was elected Federal Deputy by proportional representation to the LXII Legislature , assuming the position as of 2012 and until 2015 . In the Chamber of Deputies, he is secretary of the Information and Communication Technologies, Energy, and Finance and Public Credit committees, as well as a member of the Migratory Affairs Committee.

In 2014 he was mentioned as a possible candidate of the PRI for the governorship of Nuevo León, however he denied the aspiration and released a video in which he criticizes New Leonese politics, [ 1 ] which earned him rejection from various sectors of his party, Therefore, he later clarified that his criticisms were not directed at the state government. [ 2 ]

The from the 20 of November of 2014 requested and received licensed as federal deputy, [ 3 ] and was appointed as Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation of Educational Policy at the Ministry of Education . [ 4 ] He remained in that position until the 4 of October of 2015 it was appointed to the Undersecretariat of Basic Education of the same dependent. [ 5 ]
