After graduating from high school, Jörg Michael Peters studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Trier Theological Faculty . He was ordained a priest on July 18, 1987 . Then he was chaplain in Bendorf St. Medard and Weitersburg St. Marien until 1990 , then until 1996 secretary and episcopal chaplain of Bishop Hermann Josef Spital . In 1991 he became vicar at the Trier Cathedral of St. Peter. 1996 Bishop Spital appointed him pastor of Losheim am See St. Peter and Paul and Rimlingen Finding the cross , from 2000 also pastor of Bachem St. Willibrord . In 2001 the clergy of the deanery elected Jörg Michael Peters as dean of the Losheim am See deanery .
On December 9, 2003, Pope John Paul II appointed Peters titular bishop of Forum Traiani and auxiliary bishop in Trier. The Bishop of Trier Reinhard Marx donated him the episcopal consecration on February 8, 2004 in Trier Cathedral; Co-consecrators were Hermann Josef Spital and Auxiliary Bishop Leo Schwarz .
In the German Bishops' Conference , Auxiliary Bishop Peters is deputy chairman of the youth commission ; Also he is one of the Liturgical Commission and the Sub-Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews in  and is responsible bishop for the DJK Sports Youth . In September 2017, the Bishops' Conference appointed him National Delegate for the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest (September 13-20, 2020). 
Peters is Episcopal Vicar in the Diocese of Trier for the visitation district of Koblenz , which consists of the areas of the former administrative district of Koblenz belonging to the Diocese of Trier .
