Jürgen Labenski was the founder and then director of the film club "Leibniz" in Wiesbaden in 1962 and a sponsor of the local Caligari Filmbühne . He organized an international network of filmmakers. In addition to his work as a film editor, he also worked at the German Institute for Film Studies .
Labenski was a permanent member of the ZDF from 1968 to 2005 . Here he created the feature film series The Fantastic Film and The Great Silent Film . He was responsible for the program Advice for moviegoers , later New in the cinema .  Labenski dealt with the reconstruction of screen classics, which he presented in film history series. Among other things, he has worked on Reclams and a film dictionary as a co-author.
Since April 2006 Jürgen Labenski was the 1st chairman of the Association of German Critics
- 1992: Honored with the Wiesbaden Culture Prize.
